Csikós Gábor

Name:  Csikós Gábor  (email: csikosgabor@eletszava.org)
Born:    March 26, 1974 in Budapest, Hungary

Testimony:

I was born into a Christian family, for which I am very thankful. I have heard the gospel ever since I was a young child. My parents took me to church with them every Sunday, and in the afternoons my father lead the Sunday school for us. I loved those meetings. I accepted Christ as my personal savior at a young age, but since I was so young I didn’t understand everything completely, so you might say I got saved several times. Only later did I understand that Jesus had already saved me from my sins the first time, and it was enough to get saved once.
The years went by and nothing really changed. As a teenager I began living a double life. On Sundays I went to church, but during the week I didn’t really spend time with God, and in school with my friends I didn’t live a life fitting for a Christian.
In 1991 I was a camper at the Word of Life camp, and I had a great time. I felt that I had grown stronger as a believer. Then I went home and slowly lost that enthusiasm with regard to my Christian life. In my Church I didn’t experience the enthusiasm that I saw here in the camp, and I didn’t have Christian friends. The following summer I returned and again had a great experience. I was strengthened again, and my Christian walk was better for a time. But afterward I cooled off, once again. In 1993 I returned to serve as a camp counselor, but I wouldn’t call my ministry fruitful. After all, I wasn’t obeying God and I wasn’t living a life pleasing to Him.
In the spring of 1994 came the big change. I went with Word of Life to the EuroYouth Conference in Germany. At that conference I dedicated my life to God. I said: “Everything that I am, everything that I have, everything that I’m going to be... once and forever, completely and unconditionally, I dedicate to the Lord Jesus Christ for his use and to his glory.” I have never regretted that decision. After that came the changes, because God reached into my life. After the conference I came here to Tóalmás to the spring counselor training weekend, and in July of 1994 I began my social service requirements (an alternative to required military service) here in Tóalmás.
But that wasn’t all! By the grace of God in September of 1994 I had the opportunity to begin attending the 2-year Bible School which was just starting. It was a wonderful two years. Hearing God’s Word in the morning meetings, the afternoon classes, studying it in evening study hours, and talking and hearing about it in evening devotions. God began forming my life through His Word. After the second year I remained as a staff member, because I saw that God wanted me here. And even today I see it the same, my place is here and I love what I do.
In the Bible School I serve as the Dean of Students, which involves meeting the spiritual, physical, emotional and social needs of the students and the deans’ staff, as well as discipling them, so that they would be mature, wise followers of Jesus Christ, able to teach others. Besides this, I lead the teenage helpers who serve in summer camp.
It was here that I met my wife, Tündi, who got saved in an Adult English Language Camp. She also graduated from the Bible school, and served as the Assistant Dean of Women. Beginning in 2001 God trusted her with a different area of ministry. At that time Markó was born, and two years later Áron. Tündi has been home with them from that time fulfilling this beautiful, valuable, but difficult task to God’s glory.
We are very thankful to God, that we can serve Him here. We receive so much joy and blessing from Him. Our children also enjoy getting to know so many people.
