Berényi Juci

Name:  Judit (Juci) Berényi   (email: juci@eletszava.org)

Testimony:

I never questioned God's existence, in fact I simply never thought of Him at all. Although I was born into a non-believing family on May 9, 1974, I was still surrounded by an unbelievable loving and secure environment. God was always present in the background of our lives, since my grandparents, as believing, God fearing people, were always witnessing to us. I don't remember one visit to them when God's name or Word was not spoken of. Despite that we never drew near to Him.
That is, until the summer of 1992, when my younger sister attended the Word of Life Hungary camp, and at the age of 11 understood God's grace and excepted it. I stood perplexed by these things, after all I was 18 years old at the time and I was living it up. What could have happened to my little sister? Why did she start attending that church (Sunday school) where my grandparents go? These and similar questions were stirring around in my head when my parents decided one day that we would visit this place where my sister liked to go on Sundays. The gospel was proclaimed simply and clearly and something began to touch both me and my parents. From that time on we regularly attended the evangelical meetings and soon (about a month later) my parents hand in hand made a decision for Christ. Now only I was lagging behind, but that was to be expected, seeing as I led a fairly independent life. Nonetheless, God did not leave me alone, I could not free myself from the feeling stirring inside me. It was so positive to hear God's Word and so encouraging to think of resolving my sins, that finally one month later I also made a decision. I found Him - or rather, He found me!
Slowly but surely a change gradually began in me. I started to notice that I wasn't interested in those things, which until then had seemed so important. I reevaluated things and began to think by a different set of values. I knew that I had only Jesus to thank for my life. I wanted to know more and more about Him, and I wanted to know the Bible better, its background and why God saw it important to write this book for us. For this reason I applied to the Word of Life Hungary two year Bible School, and God's work did not end here. He constantly showed me and shows me what He wants to teach me, ways I need to be formed. But what is most important to me is that this world is so big and so many people are lost. But there is a chance for them! Jesus died and was resurrected for them, too! My desire is that I would do everything possible for God's work. We need to love the lost, after all I was also lost, but was given the opportunity to make a decision. The desire of my heart is to be a good warrior and I believe that, as we read in the book of Proverbs, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."
