Hear the Cry of Africa...
"Africa?... I thought the Bartoses were ministering in Hungary?!?" True, but this winter in our little village of Tóalmás, Hungary, we held our annual Missions conference. This year the theme was Hear the Cry of Africa. The goal of our faith promise was to raise money for camp scholarships for Word of Life Kenya, so that this summer as many Kenyan children as possible would have the opportunity to attend camp, where they can hear God's Word. Our key-note speaker was Harry Bollback, who through his unique style, breezily and energetically encouraged us from God's Word, laced richly with his life experiences and illustrations. Harry Bollback is Founding Director of Word of Life Foundation, and began Word of Life's international ministry in the 1950s when he left to start the ministry in Brazil. In addition we had the honor of having the director of Word of Life Kenya, Chris Mwal'wa with us. This was our first opportunity to meet him. Our Faith Promise financial goal was to have 1.8 million forint (~$8,600) promised. However, hearing Chris' messages, God tugged on the hearts of many and when the promise slips were counted, we had 2.83 million forint (~$13,600) promised to the Kenyan ministry. Praise the Lord! With that amount, 329 Kenyan children can attend camp this summer. Pray that our staff and students will be faithful to their promises and pray for the young people of Kenya. |

Bible Club Conference in Poland... In early February we participated in a three-day international Bible Club Conference in Poland. The exact location was the beautiful ski paradise, Zakupane. The exhaustion from the six-hour drive and finding our way through a foreign country was well worth it. We had a lovely time with the Word of Life Bible Club staff and local church club leaders from Poland as well as the Czech Republic. The guest speaker was our own Alex Konya, who spoke on the book of Nehemiah. Al's messages challenged us, alongside the true challenge of singing many well-known praise songs in Polish. The mood of the conference by-and-large reflected that of a Word of Life club meeting. The Polish staff prepared a colorful program. On Sunday we said farewell to our brothers and sisters and embarked again on the six hour drive home. We are thankful to God for the conference, and for protecting us in travel. Please pray for each of the conference participants, as they return to their churches to continue their Bible Club ministry. |
The Faithful Church in Felsőpetény...
This month we twice had the opportunity to visit a church in the village of Felsőpetény. The rich history of the church is evident by the many pictures adorning the walls, dating back to the 1920s. Their pastor of nine years has recently felt the call to leave and plant a church in another area of Hungary. The decision is met with mixed emotions by the church members. Naturally they are glad for the future church plant, but disappointed to lose their beloved shepherd and friend. Our newest Bible School staff member and Bible teacher, Paul Weaver, was invited to speak at their church recently. We accompanied him and Andris translated as Paul preached two excellent sermons in their morning and evening worship services. Between services we had a wonderful lunch and hours of fellowship with some of the church leaders and their families. The church runs a faithful Word of Life club every Friday night. This past Friday we visited the club along with the Bán family. We spent a nice evening with the young people of the church. Please pray for this precious group of believers as they search for a pastor and take over the duties of the pastor in the interim. |
Tóalmás Bible Club...
In March we held a special evangelistic Bible Club in place of our regular Thursday night meeting. The club kids invited friends and classmates and we were so excited to see 36 young people attend... praise the Lord!! István Varga, a member of our Bible school staff and part of the Tóalmás Bible Club leadership team, presented the gospel clearly and in such a way as to hold the attention of even kids who had obviously not come to hear the message. Please pray for the 7 young people who indicated salvation decisions and for the faithful attendees as they strive to be a testimony for Christ amongst their classmates & friends. |
